Mount Vernon Leadership Academy holds No Place for Hate anti-bullying assembly
Mount Vernon Leadership Academy held its No Place for Hate (NPFH) “Stomp Out Bullying” assembly on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
Grades two through six attended the presentation, which was run by student ambassadors for NPFH. The ambassadors at MVLA are Crislenny Acosta, eight-grade student at MVLA; Nathan Friday, seventh-grade student; and Jordyn Browns, fifth-grade student.
The scholars learned about what it means to become an Upstander, someone who does what they think is right and stands up for their beliefs instead of standing by. They also answered questions about the types of bullying and what they can do to end the cycle of bullying.

Students from Mount Vernon Leadership Academy congregated in their classrooms for guest readers to visit for Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Friday, March 1, 2024. Guests included District administrators, Board of Education Trustees, Mount Vernon police officers and former staff members from the school.
Over 100 families came to Mount Vernon Leadership Academy's Literacy Night for an evening of fun and educational activities on Thursday, February 8, 2024. They played games such as Dabble, Scrabble, five second rule games, Taboo, Zingo, bingo and more. There was also a free raffle with prizes donated by Parent Liaison Maura Gutierrez.
Scholars at Mount Vernon Leadership Academy lined up outside of the gymnasium for the book fair on February 7, 2024. The book fair began on Monday, February 5, 2024, and will end on Friday, February 9.
Students at Mount Vernon Leadership Academy lined up outside of room 234 with excitement for the Valentine's Day Boutique on Monday, February 5, 2024. The boutique will be running from Monday, February 5, 2024, to Friday, February 9, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Students are able to purchase various items such as roses, jewelry, slime, pens, hair clips and scrunchies.
Mount Vernon Leadership Academy kicked off their second annual mentorship program with a scavenger hunt and pizza party in the media center on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The afternoon celebrated the beginning of the program, teaching students what it means to be a mentee.
Students danced and musically banged on their drums during their talent show performance on January 12, 2024. Mount Vernon Leadership Academy's Drumline won first place at the Hidden Talent and Fashion Show at Mount Vernon High School on Friday, January 12, 2024. First prize was $500.
The newly introduced Leadership Bear greeted students as they entered the Mount Vernon Leadership Academy (MVLA) auditorium for an assembly. MVLA held a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assembly on Friday, December 8, 2023.
U.S. veterans were honored at Mount Vernon Leadership Academy on Thursday, November 10, 2023, with a special breakfast and presentation. Veterans from the U.S Army and U.S Navy visited the school to be commended by the community.
